Stage 0 (Carcinoma in situ): High-grade dysplasia, a collection of abnormal cells, is found in the stomach lining or on the top layer of mucosal cells.

Lamina propria, muscularis mucosa, or submucosa are the layers below which the tumor has spread from the top layer of mucosal cells; lymph nodes may or may not be involved (1-2 nodes)

Stage II: Cancer cells have spread to the stomach’s deeper layers and may or may not have affected lymph nodes (1-15 lymph nodes)

Stage III: It may affect every layer of the stomach, have migrated to surrounding organs and structures, or have 1 to > 16 lymph nodes involved.

Stage IV: cancer cells have spread to all stomach layers, and may not or may have lymph node involvement. But has already reached distant organs such as the brain, lungs, liver, or peritoneum.
