Stomach Cancer

The most prevalent kind of stomach cancer is adenocarcinoma, which develops when abnormal or malignant cells first appear on the stomach’s linings.

The most prevalent type of stomach cancer is adenocarcinoma, which develops from the stomach’s inner lining.
Lymphoma is an uncommon immune system cancer that begins where lymphatic tissues are located, such as the stomach.
A benign or metastatic form of cancer called a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) can develop in the cells of the stomach wall (interstitial cells of Cajal).
A neuroendocrine tumor known as a carcinoid originates in the digestive tract; it grows slowly and exhibits symptoms in its later stages.

How many different stages are there? The severity and extent of the malignancy are determined by one of the five stages of stomach cancer.

Stage 0 (Carcinoma in situ): High-grade dysplasia, a collection of abnormal cells, is found in the stomach lining or on the top layer of mucosal cells.

Lamina propria, muscularis mucosa, or submucosa are the layers below which the tumor has spread from the top layer of mucosal cells; lymph nodes may or may not be involved (1-2 nodes)

Stage II: Cancer cells have spread to the stomach’s deeper layers and may or may not have affected lymph nodes (1-15 lymph nodes)

Stage III: It may affect every layer of the stomach, have migrated to surrounding organs and structures, or have 1 to > 16 lymph nodes involved.

Stage IV: cancer cells have spread to all stomach layers, and may not or may have lymph node involvement. But has already reached distant organs such as the brain, lungs, liver, or peritoneum.
